The kindle is easily the dominating ebook platform on the web, millions of ebooks are uploaded and sold each week. Many people are jumping on the band wagon and releasing their own ebooks. Self publishing has never been bigger, and will only increase as we move from an analogue era of reading to a new digital stage! Help is on hand though and im going to give you a few tips and resources on kindle ebook covers.

Now for a self publisher newbie, it might seem like an exciting prospect selling your own book. But because of the high competition its not so easy to get your book noticed once it hits the kindle market.

Below are three useful tips to remember when designing your kindle ebook cover that will hopefully make your pride and joy stand out in a crowded market.

1. Keep it simple. Too many pictures, words, graphics and colors will disorientate the potential buyer. Keep the cover simple. I like to use the 3 second rule to make sure its simple enough for viewers. The 3 second rule goes like this.

Take your ebook design and show it to a friend or family member. Tell them you will let them look at the cover for 3 seconds, and after that 3 seconds is up you want them to tell you what the book is about.

If they are unable to do so, then you know your cover is far to complicated, and you will need to go back to the drawing board!

2. Branding. Its a well know fact if someone is happy with a purchase that they will be more likely inclined to follow up with another purchase from the same person.

So I recommend if you are planning on releasing more than one book, then you keep the same sort of style, of course you can change the text around but keep the fundamental aspects of your first design though out your book range.

3. Fonts. Its all well and good if you have folder full of super sexy, stylish fonts available. But a lot of these fonts are no good to you. Make sure you use a font that is clear and concise. Make sure it fits in with the them of your book. Don’t go using a western style font on a futuristic thriller.

Arial is a good all round font to use and is standard issue on any publishing program like Photoshop or word. If you can get your hands on a copy of the font Myriad Pro then that’s an advantage as it is a very versatile font with plenty of styles available.

So keep it simple, brand it, and be selective when picking your fonts. And if you follow these simple rules then your kindle ebook cover should be just fine!

Below is a few kindle ebook cover designs I put together this morning, feel free to use them however you want, they are 100% editable so you can even use them on your own books if you so wish.
