Youtube videos in Google search results

Since Google started giving more and more attention to "blended" results, a huge opportunity to leapfrog quickly onto page 1 has opened up. I'm sure you've read the it's 50 times more likely for video content to appear on the front page than a standard web page. If there genuinely is no video competition for your selected keywords, it should just take a bit of video optimisation to put you up there. There are a number of things I would do to optimise your video.

1. Upload To Youtube - The vast majority of videos shown in the blended results are from Youtube. Your video is guaranteed to be indexed if it is uploaded onto Youtube.

2. Embed The Video In Your Site - This is essential, ideally surrounded by relevant text or a transcript of the video.

3. Create A Video Sitemap - Check these out at the Google Webmaster Tools site and put one on your site.

4. Choose The Right Title - This needs to match your chosen keyword(s) exactly. The video description also needs to contain the keyword(s).

5. Create A Youtube Channel - If you really want to optimise for one specific keyword, put that as the title of your Youtube Channel.

6. Build Backlinks To Your Video - As with all SEO, backlinks are important in Video SEO. The more high quality links to your video, the higher the video will rank.

One advantage you have with videos over conventional SEO is that it is easier to get a YouTube video to rank on page 1 than it is to rank a website. What that means is you can compete for rankings with well-established sites if you have optimized your videos correctly. If you truly have little or no competition for your keywords, you should find yourself on page one within a few months. Obviously, the more competition, the longer it will take to rank.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
